Life at HTI

Live and train in the heart of elite hockey in Ontario!

Located in Utopia, Ontario, HTI is only 5 minutes outside of the city of Barrie, located on the shores of Lake Simcoe. In this beautiful rural setting, the night sky is an incredible view and we have the luxury of hosting bonfires and countless outdoor activities throughout the year. It is a very safe and friendly area with plenty of opportunities to go hiking, swimming, and biking. Players and families have easy access to grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, restaurants, golf courses, hotels, movie theaters, and shopping centers. Also, we are 45 minutes from Toronto, so there is always something happening in the area.

Best of all? There is endless hockey to watch! Ontario is home to two women's professional hockey teams, the NWHL's Toronto Six in Toronto and the Barrie Colts OHL Hockey Club plays at the Molson Center in Barrie. And of course, the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs can be viewed at the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto.

LIFE ON CAMPUS

HTI players live as a tight family among their peers from around the world. In a busy schedule of school, training and hockey games, there is also some time to relax. HTI's residential facility features a games room with video games, a ping-pong table, a foosball table, and a TV lounge. There is Wi-Fi throughout the facility, so students can spend time online talking with family and friends, or browse the net in the comfort of their own rooms.

Our weight room is also open for the players to get their extra workouts in during free time.

When the cold inevitably comes around, HTI’s “Outdoor Hockey Rink” will be built and flooded for some good old-fashioned Pond Hockey.

OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS AND TRIPS

There are many off-campus activities we do as a group during the season. Team trips to Canada’s Wonderland, Hockey Hall of Fame, Wasaga Beach, Niagara Falls, and more are all part of the program.

HTI staff members are also available and do their best to accommodate the players with providing transportation in the evenings and on the weekends to get out and go shopping, to the movies, or just to grab a bite in town. We are only a short drive away from Walmart, Georgian Mall, Vaughan Mills Shopping Center, Cineplex Movie Theater, and numerous restaurants.

FOOD SERVICES

Nutritious meals are essential for elite athletes in training and competition. Our cafeteria is located within the residential facility, where a staff of professional cooks under our chef’s supervision prepare a variety of quality meals. Students receive three meals plus snacks daily. Players are educated about the value of a nutritious diet and our kitchen staff communicate with us daily about dietary needs and preferences. Students with special health and dietary needs are accommodated.

Nutritional Advice - We hire the services of a professional nutritionist to help our staff and our players better understand what diet an athlete should follow for him/her to perform at the top of their ability.
